Spring Landscape Painting Workshop

June 1-3, 2018
Kings Oaks Farm
Newtown, PA

Level: Intermediate-Advanced

Artists, please join New York painter Christopher Gallego for a three-day painting workshop on this beautiful farm in eastern PA.

Art at Kings Oaks reimagines a stone chapel and a 19th-century barn near Newtown, Pennsylvania.

If you have taken Gallego's classes or read the blog the approach will sound familiar...

  • Paint with your eyes, your mind, and your intuition. Technique comes second.
  • Think abstractly. Don't label what you paint.
  • Focus on the process, not the outcome
  • Don't imitate.
  • Watch your state of mind while you work.
  • Paint directly, use a knife, and load it up.
  • Have some fun & don't obsess.

Yes, there are special considerations to plein-air...

  • Work quickly within a 2-hour window.
  • Limited palette.
  • More texture & energy, less medium.
  • Slightly exaggerate the distance.
  • Don't be thrown by shifting light; go with it.
  • Politely ignore admirers who want to chat with you (repeat...politely.)
